I dropped the triplets off in Kingston after lunch and I had intended to stop at Planet Fitness on the way back to town, but instead I stopped at the Herron-Downs Fen Nature Preserve, part of the Ross County Park District. The property was acquired in Dec. 2022 and the park opened in 2025. According to the website, the park "currently consists of riparian woodlands, isolated wetland areas, wooded ridges, and 90 acres of recently active farm fields, but this will change. The Ohio EPA has approved a generous grant that will allow the entire [174 acre] preserve to be returned to its natural state, likely attracting threatened and endangered plant, animal, and insect species." There is at present one trail called the Sycamore Trail, because of two very large sycamore trees. I used the MapMyWalk app to track my hike. Though the trail is about 3 miles round trip, I walked a half mile in and turned around so my hike was about a mile. I can walk much more easily than I could this time last year, but I will need to work up to the full length of the trail. The two large trees are both at the midpoint of the trail, so I did not see either of them today.
