The kids and I returned from Holden Beach on Saturday, July 11, and I dropped them off to see their Momma in Kingston. That evening I volunteered to serve as a "child wrangler" for Chillicothe Civic Theatre's production of The SpongeBob Musical at Chillicothe High School. This involves trying to keep child actors quiet and to make sure they appear on stage when they are supposed to. All but one of the kids were actors I have worked with on previous productions or at drama camp. Because I was assisting that night, I was included in the "SpongeBob cast and crew who were also involved in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" reunion photo.
My plan Sunday was to attend worship at First Presbyterian Church in Chillicothe, but I was called to Kingston for a relatively minor family crisis and I was glad to be able to have the flexibility to be with my kids in their time of need. Sunday afternoon was spent watching SpongeBob with Jon (Student Director), Abbie, and Anne. The CCT Board (which included me at that point) approved the show last summer and I have never been shy about my dislike of the SpongeBob character, but the show was very well done and there was a lot of local talent on stage. The show seems to have sold well, which is good for the theatre too.
On Monday I had a stress test at Adena, to continue to evaluate my heart function. I was very anxious about the test itself and what it might show but it ended up being a relatively painless procedure and the results were positive. Since I missed church Sunday morning I attended Monday night mass at St. Peter Roman Catholic Church. It was the first time I have been in their church building, I believe.
I stopped by the AAA office on Main Street to inquire about my train tickets. The agent I booked the trip is no longer working at that office so there may have been a delay in getting the tickets. But they were able to help and I learned that my initial train would depart at a different time than originally scheduled.
Much of the rest of the week was focused on the kids and their activities. Spending time with them is also an aim of this sabbatical time. Jon was not around a lot because it was tech week for his other show, Something Rotten Jr., at the Paxton Theatre in Bainbridge. Nick had pre-Band Camp sessions every day in the morning. Abbie had tennis practice. And while Noelle did not have any activities, she is a good helper and a joy to be with. I also got to spend some time watching big kid Justin Gorski play baseball for the Paints.
Jon filmed a video audition for CCT's upcoming Beetlejuice Jr. and Abbie had an in person audition Friday night. Jon was chosen to play Beetlejuice and Abbie was selected for an ensemble role! We saw Something Rotten Jr. Saturday night with Mom and Dad. It was a fun show with catchy songs.
